Dear XDC Families,

This week students in XDC have been making St. Patrick’s Day crafts. Some of the students’ favorite projects from last week were; a “green-jello cooking project, painting “shamrocks” and a “Leprechaun treasure-hunt.”

Morning XDC Pre-K News!

March 13th– 17th

Happy Monday and the letter T week! Hopefully you enjoyed a restful day off on Friday. Preschool teachers attended an informative workshop on Literacy Development and I’m looking forward to incorporating some of what was taught into our day.

Your children are so naturally curious and often inspire me to expose them to places, concepts, or instruction not on the “scheduled” plan. Last week was an example! Many of you may have heard about our Mount Rushmore project. A few of the children were looking at a book from our library that included several national monuments. They were so intrigued by Mt. Rushmore we made a mold of the monument, and learned about the presidents who adorn it, how long it took to complete, and several more facts. I encourage you to check it out and apologize to those of you who are being forced to plan your next family vacation there! (Although I highly encourage it!)

Last week we did not finish the lifecycle of a Ladybug science unit, so beginning Monday we will start this.

Math centers will include writing numbers, counting and measuring with shamrocks.

We will learn about St. Patrick, and of course incorporate some fun art projects!

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful week!

XDC Morning Pre-K News!

Hello preschool families and Happy Monday. This newsletter will be fairly brief because much of what we were to accomplish last week we didn’t get to due to our snow days!

This week we will celebrate Valentine’s Day and learn about St. Valentine. Our letter will be P.

We will learn about some important African American inventors and will read a story about Rosa Parks. Our inventions with recycled materials will be on Thursday.

Our peace corner is now in place and the doves surround the word PEACE. The purpose of this is to have a place the children can talk about conflict resolution with one another and hopefully come to a peaceful solution!

Given the circumstances last week, the children did a beautiful job adapting even though recesses were missed and schedules were changed. On Friday, we had a special snack of mini blueberry and chocolate chip muffins as a reward!

Have a great week and as always, please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you,

Mrs. Flood

Morning Pre-K News!

February 6th – 10th, 2017

Hello Preschool families!

Happy Monday. Hope you all enjoyed a restful, healthy weekend!

This entire month we recognize men and women, who have stood bravely among diversity, fought valiantly for social justice, honored human rights for all people, and used their talents and gifts to make the world a better place. We will celebrate Black History month this week and next, by learning about whom some of these individuals were and their accomplishments.

This will provide an opportunity to do several lessons on peace and conflict resolution. We will create a “Peace Corner” in our class and craft “Wings of Peace.”

Several famous African-American’s were inventors. For our science project your children will be building their own inventions using recyclable materials and sharing them with the class.

The letter this week is O. Math centers will include sorting and counting hearts, and geometric shapes.

As is often the case, my enthusiasm takes over the reality of what we are sometimes able to accomplish in morning care! Please accept my apology. We will continue learning next week what we can’t finish in this one!

This newsletter will be posted on the Extended Day Care page, along with some photos of your children busy at work during our science and engineering projects. Check it out!

Have a wonderful week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
