Friday, January 12th

Dear XDC Families,

XDC is closed on Monday, January 15th. XDC will resume on Tuesday, January 16th. Have a great weekend!

Please see the below message from the NewsViews this week:

The school is asking for your prayer requests for one of our faculty members. We learned recently Mrs. Marcey Flood, Director of Early Learning at St. John School, has vascular cancer. She started chemotherapy this week and will be away from school. We will continue to keep you updated as she undergoes treatment. At this time we are asking for your prayers for healing and strength for Mrs. Flood and her family. If you would like to help in a more tangible way, please visit the Meal Train site created to help organize food and donations for the family during Marcey’s treatment.

God Bless,

Bernadette O’Leary

Morning XDC Pre-K News

June 5th– 9th

Good morning and Happy Monday! This will be the final newsletter of the school year from me. I will not be working in XDC this summer, but look forward to seeing you in August! Thank you for your kindness and support this year. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of your children and your families.

This week in morning care we will continue to review letters and numbers; sorting, counting, and patterning.

We will continue with the Ocean theme and Summer! We were unable to do some of the intended activities and projects because of the short week.

Please remember that there is no day care or preschool on Friday, June 9th but I hope to see many of you at the preschool picnic!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Thank you and have a wonderful week and summer vacation!

God Bless,

Check out the day care webpage for a picture or two!

This week we will be learning about the ocean. The unit includes a Math fishing game, a fish flop prediction game, and the creation of a “Wave bottle” for Science.

Morning XDC Pre-K News

May 1st– 5th

Hello morning day care families! Thank you for your support of our auction! Your children will benefit immensely from the generosity of so many in this wonderful community.

Last Friday we witnessed what happens to water when we throw garbage into our oceans and streams. Using coffee grounds, plastic, dirt, and a few other materials we made predictions about what might happen to the water when we put certain items into it.

This week in morning care we complete the alphabet with the letter Z. The children are very excited about this, as you may have heard! I told them that we would have an “alphabet party” to celebrate. (Something simple such as mini muffins for snack, and a classroom game.)

We will also honor Mary, our blessed mother, in various ways this month. The pre-k teachers do a beautiful job teaching religion to your children in the afternoons, and I will reinforce what they are teaching as best I can.

Science Friday will involve building small structures using craft sticks and testing their strength in various ways.

Have a wonderful week!

Dear XDC Families,

The students in XDC have been working on “spring crafts.” Some of the students’ favorite crafts last week were; making “stained-glass windows” with tissue paper, decorating paper “Easter eggs” and creating “paper-butterflies.”

A reminder to parents:

  • There is no school the week of April 17th-21st. XDC is open. Please register in advance if you are planning to come to XDC.

Morning Pre-K News!

April 3rd – 7th

Happy April and Spring! It was wonderful to have a little sunshine last week; let’s hope for more!

Both in afternoon preschool and in morning care, the children have been working on proper letter and shape formations. We practiced and reinforced this on Friday using shaving cream. (They loved it! Check the web site for a few photos.)

This week we will explore plants, seeds, and gardens. We will learn what is necessary for seeds to grow and plants to thrive.

Our letter is W. W crafts, watermelon math, and spring story problems will keep us busy in math and science.

We have also begun a meditative writing/drawing time one morning a week. Quiet music plays while the children draw anything they are moved to. It can be a picture of family, friends, an activity they did over the weekend, something they would like to do, or an abstract picture. It is entirely their choice. When finished they are encouraged to tell me about their picture and together we write.

As always, please let me know if you have questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Dear XDC Families,

This week students in XDC have been making St. Patrick’s Day crafts. Some of the students’ favorite projects from last week were; a “green-jello cooking project, painting “shamrocks” and a “Leprechaun treasure-hunt.”

Morning XDC Pre-K News!

March 13th– 17th

Happy Monday and the letter T week! Hopefully you enjoyed a restful day off on Friday. Preschool teachers attended an informative workshop on Literacy Development and I’m looking forward to incorporating some of what was taught into our day.

Your children are so naturally curious and often inspire me to expose them to places, concepts, or instruction not on the “scheduled” plan. Last week was an example! Many of you may have heard about our Mount Rushmore project. A few of the children were looking at a book from our library that included several national monuments. They were so intrigued by Mt. Rushmore we made a mold of the monument, and learned about the presidents who adorn it, how long it took to complete, and several more facts. I encourage you to check it out and apologize to those of you who are being forced to plan your next family vacation there! (Although I highly encourage it!)

Last week we did not finish the lifecycle of a Ladybug science unit, so beginning Monday we will start this.

Math centers will include writing numbers, counting and measuring with shamrocks.

We will learn about St. Patrick, and of course incorporate some fun art projects!

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful week!

XDC Morning Pre-K News!

Hello preschool families and Happy Monday. This newsletter will be fairly brief because much of what we were to accomplish last week we didn’t get to due to our snow days!

This week we will celebrate Valentine’s Day and learn about St. Valentine. Our letter will be P.

We will learn about some important African American inventors and will read a story about Rosa Parks. Our inventions with recycled materials will be on Thursday.

Our peace corner is now in place and the doves surround the word PEACE. The purpose of this is to have a place the children can talk about conflict resolution with one another and hopefully come to a peaceful solution!

Given the circumstances last week, the children did a beautiful job adapting even though recesses were missed and schedules were changed. On Friday, we had a special snack of mini blueberry and chocolate chip muffins as a reward!

Have a great week and as always, please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you,

Mrs. Flood
